Summary of Changes
Hello @kthota-g, I'm Gemini Code Assist1! I'm currently reviewing this pull request and will post my feedback shortly. In the meantime, here's a summary to help you and other reviewers quickly get up to speed!
This pull request implements a significant migration of the authenticated extended card functionality from a deprecated HTTP GET endpoint to a new agent/authenticatedExtendedCard
JSON-RPC method. It involves adding new type definitions, updating the JSON-RPC handling logic to support the new method, and ensuring proper error handling. The PR is currently marked as [DO NOT MERGE]
due to a dependency on external type changes from another pull request.
Highlights
- New JSON-RPC Method: Introduced support for the new
agent/authenticatedExtendedCard
JSON-RPC method, allowing clients to retrieve an authenticated extended agent card via a standardized RPC interface. - Endpoint Deprecation: The existing HTTP GET
/agent/authenticatedExtendedCard
endpoint has been marked as deprecated withTODO
comments infastapi_app.py
andstarlette_app.py
, and a warning log has been added to its handler injsonrpc_app.py
to inform clients of its eventual removal. - Type Definitions and Error Handling: New types have been defined in
types.py
for theGetAuthenticatedExtendedCardRequest
,GetAuthenticatedExtendedCardSuccessResponse
, andGetAuthenticatedExtendedCardResponse
. A specific error type,AuthenticatedExtendedCardNotConfiguredError
, has also been added to handle cases where the extended card is not configured. - JSON-RPC Request Validation: Enhanced the JSON-RPC request handling in
jsonrpc_app.py
to include an initial validation step for the basic JSON-RPC structure, ensuring robustness before processing specific A2A requests. - Unit Tests: Comprehensive unit tests have been added in
test_jsonrpc_handler.py
to cover the success and error scenarios for the newget_authenticated_extended_card
method.

Code Review
This pull request introduces support for the agent/authenticatedExtendedCard
JSON-RPC method, deprecating the old GET endpoint. The implementation adds the necessary types, handlers, and tests for this new functionality. My review has identified two high-severity issues: a missing authentication check in the new handler method, and a potentially breaking protocol change for task ID generation that has been bundled with this feature and should be addressed separately.

Description
This change adds support for a new JSON-RPC method
agent/getAuthenticatedExtendedCard
for fetching authenticated extendedcard.
This is only applicable if
AgentCard.supportsAuthenticatedExtendedCard
bit is set to
true
that allows fetching authenticated context specificagent card.
In the previous versions, the extended card was served via
{AgentCard.url}/../agent/authenticatedExtendedCard
endpoint. Thisendpoint is being removed from the spec in favor of the JSON-RPC method. This endpoint
will be deprecated in the SDKs and will be removed in a future release.
