Controllers should better leverage args structs

Both the node and controller instantiations have method signatures with 8+ arguments. Let's make use of structs of args to make these signatures cleaner.

Both the node and controller structs have very long constructors. Now that args structs have been created, we could simplify things a bit by using those.
