Hi. I have created two state diagrams for the readme file.

They are graphical png files though if you actually prefer ascii-art, it is possible to generate at https://dot-to-ascii.ggerganov.com/.

Also checking in the generated png files to make
1. the images avaliable to be rendered on github page.
2. graphviz a soft dependency only necessary if you modify the dot files.

The built-in way to do this in GitHub is Mermaid diagrams:
https://docs.github.com/en/get-started/writing-on-github/working-with-advanced-formatting/creating-diagrams

Looks very similar to dot-to-ascii but it's a supported language that GitHub renders in readme markdown.
